Sivakumar works in a reputed IT company in the Tidel Park in Chennai. He had led the right life -- several hours of intense studying right up from primary school, and a family that valued a stable job, ensured he performed well in exams and landed a seat at a top engineering college in the city. When he passed out he had a high-profile IT job waiting for him. Having finally achieved his goal Siva began to enjoy the good things in life. He spent most of his day working on the computer, texting friends, watching TV or movies at the multiplex, going with his friends to the stadium whenever the IPL teams played in Chennai, and reading the occasional book.

As the days and months passed by Siva began to experience difficulty reading the complex power point presentation his manager made. By the time he finished office his eyes would feel heavy.

Since he had been already wearing spectacles since college, he did not think the problem could be with his eyes. His mother advised him to sleep some more and he tried that. In fact he began to reduce the time he spent working for some time and sleeping more. All this did not help and his problems only worsened. So much so that he began dreading the weekly outing with his friends to the movie halls to watch the latest movies. Because he ended up with another headache.

As time went by, Siva's productivity and ability to concentrate reduced. His manager started noticing that Siva wasn't working as well as before. Realizing that he might end up losing his job Siva went to the.

His doctor said he had come to him just at the right time. Siva's eyes, although he wore bifocals, had become weak because he hadn't done an eye check-up several years in a row. The doctor diagnosed Siva's problem as Visual Fatigue Syndrome and recommended special lens and spectacles that would correct his eyes.

Siva's case is not isolated. The eye specialist at Turakhia Optics says that eight out of ten people experience Visual Fatigue Syndrome on a daily basis. Bifocals or progressive lens are not a solution to this problem because it can lead to frequent headaches when you focus on the computer screen; it can lead to neck pain because of frequent head movement, and; readjusting your body to find a clear focus through the lens often leads to back pain.
