Imagine if someone were to tell you that "no more daily homework for your kids" or "no need for the kids to lug around heavy school bags"? Well, believe it or not, that is exactly what Montessori education system is all about. No, it does not mean that not much studying goes on in these schools, it only implies that the style of teaching here is different, more practical and, hence, fun. If this intrigues you, here’s a low-down on Chennai Montessori schools.

Abacus (Montessori in Perungudi) is so popular that parents don’t mind driving 30 km every day just so their kids get a wholesome education. Fun is woven into anything the kids do here, be it academics or co-curricular activities. Excursions to neighbouring places and exchange programmes with other schools keep children hooked.

Sharanalaya Montessori School (Nungambakkam) firmly believes in the adage "From the little child grows a mighty adult". Children are taught through stories, activities and excursions. Smiling faces all around speak of warm and nurturing atmosphere and a healthy teacher-pupil relationship.

In the heart of the city, couple of yards from Shoppers Stop is Lady Andal (Harrington Road). The school boasts of a plush campus, with plenty of open space and greenery, and is almost second home to hundreds of children who learn everything from academics to sports and cultural nuances. Basketball and football practices alongside math and social studies classes keep the children happily engaged. The annual fete and art-craft shows draw visitors from all across the city.

Want your kid to learn in a fun-filled environment? Enrol her in a Montessori school.
