I went Children section at Anna Centenary library, Kotturpuram, Chennai on 19/02/12 around 5:30 PM. We searched Diary of Wimpy Kid (I and my son found out access number as 823.0083, 791.4…) and could not locate since there are lot of books with same number. We went to library staff and requested their help, four people are busy chatting, no one moved from the place to help us after explaining the problem.
I noticed they were busy chatting throughout the time we were there. I think, instead of chatting they should help customers as much as they can. They will be also familiar and get more ideas for better cataloguing.
I think, senior staff should visit periodically check what the staff are doing and issue memo if they are not working so that they will be afraid. They should also be trained on customer service.
Moreover I think we should employ people with helping tendency in the library and train them properly so that the above action is unnecessary.
We should not spoil the name of second largest library in Asia continent with irresponsible staff.
